Gucci started the embroidry fashion trend and now everyone is on it!!
Spring is just around the corner (or in Houston the heat is creeping up..) and it is announcing itself in brightly embroidered colors. Embroidered bags, embroidered shirts, embroidered dresses, embroidered jackets, embroidered leather jackets. And one of my favorite trends this year, embroidered heels! After joining ShoeBar Mobile yesterday in Dallas for the shoe buying market most high street names were carrying embroidery heels, sneakers, boots and sandals.
Embroidery is something that has been around a long time. In fact it is something that can be traced all the way back to the Iron Age of human civilization! Of course it is believed that is was the Chinese during the Zhou Dynasty, around 1045 BC, that are credited for the more modern embroidery techniques we see today. To them embroidery, was considered a sign of power, wealth and rank. The Chinese used embroidered designs on clothing in a way that each symbol had meaning. For example, a plum blossom was meant to bless the wearer with good fortune whereas a crane represented longevity. People are not as knowledgeable about the meanings behind embroidery patterns today.
All over the catwalk from big names like D&G and Gucci to high street designers like Bebe, Chinese Laundry and Steve Madden.
The embroidery trend comeback is most definitely here, telling us “Spring has arrived!”
