a Scottish girl living the American dream. Fashion, beautiful and everything fabulous to me!

This weekend my husband (aka known as the Instagram Husband you will find out why during this article…) and I decided to drive all the way to West Texas for an adeventure to take in what it has to offer before our work week in Midland.

All my girlfriends were like ‘why are you spending a weekend in West Texas there is nothing to do’ and another actually thought I made it up to get out of an event! I mean is it really that unbelievable West Texas has amazing things to offer?! Well hopefully this post might make you think differently!

On Friday night after getting some supplies (Bubbly, beer, cheese and crackers, chocolate, sandwiches etc) we were ready to check in at our G O R G E O U S location for the evening! Marfa El Cosmico is maybe the coolest place I’ve ever stayed, in fact I want to state that it was maybe a little ‘too cool’ for us, however I took my Banana Republic fringe leather jacket so maybe fitted in a little better than my husband with his basketball shorts and gym tee!

El Cosmico is an 21 acre nomadic hotel and campground in Marfa, Texas. In keeping with the belief that life should be a balance of adventure and do-nothingness they offer shelter, occasional entertainment, opportunity for learning/doing/making, and access to the majesty of the high plains desert. Accommodations at El Cosmico include renovated vintage trailers, safari and scout tents, Sioux-style tepees, a Mongolian yurt, and tent campsites. The property also offers several communal spaces for guests – a hammock grove, an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a community lounge and mercantile, an outdoor stage, a reading room. We stayed in a cute purple trailer, just enough room for the both of us! We sat outside listening to the music from the local band, then took our bubbles and beer indoors under candle light.

In the morning, we strolled over to Squeeze for some coffee and breakfast baguettes – if you go here you need to taste their sausage it’s sooo delicious! The other place where I really wanted to try was The Capri but unfortunately it opens at 11am 😦 we are early birds!

Then a short 40 minute drive a couple of miles outside of Valentine, Texas and you come to the Prada Art Installation – this has been on my bucket list FOREVER! Prada Marfa is a permanently installed sculpture by artists Elmgreen and Dragset. The installation was inaugurated on October 1, 2005. The artists called the work a “pop architectural land art project. If you are ANYWHERE near this area this is a MUST!

Now, I wouldn’t be a blogger if I didn’t spend about an hour in this location posing for pictures because this place was too beautiful not to capture (this is where my instagram husband comes in handy!)

I mixed up my outfits a little, I wanted a country/modern feel, because it’s Prada after all but located in the edge of Texas! This dress was a steal from Bevello in City Center, Houston. It’s a simple dress, and typically I would wear a cute belt to match my accessories. I love plain pieces that I can dress up! The statement necklace is from Francesa’s and my boots are from non other than Jimmy Choo. Now I had to wear something Prada right?! My favorite sunglasses!

And what better way to top off a desert shoot than with a FRINGE LEATHER JACKET Y’all!! I don’t often do shoots when I travel, in fact usually I’m trying to take a selfie of my entire outfit on my own (EPIC FAIL usually!) and also because when I’m on a work trip the last thing I’m thinking about is a photoshoot and my outfits are typically corporate and boring! This leather fringe jacket was bought in a Banana Republic sale a year ago, so it was PEFFECT for these pictures.

After an exciting morning at Prada… we drove just under 3 hours through the amazing picturesque (yes, that word PERFECTLY describes the scenery) to Odessa, Texas. Then arriving in Odessa we went to the Cork & Pig for a delicious dinner (Brickoven pizza, home made dip and Topo Chico with lemon (I mean SOOO close to Mexico Boarder!) So what would top the evening off? Easy Eddies Pool Hall where I beat my hubby twice (he then maybe beat me 4 times after this flook/think he made me win to give me a confidence boost!)

So here we are in sunny Midland for a week of work, and I feel thankful I get to work along side my husband so we can be together while trying and not apart, PLUS we went to Prada Marfa!!! Please take the time to explore West Texas, it really does have SOOOO much to offer, I can’t wait to go back and explore more!

xx
