We have been so blessed from all our concerned friends here in Texas reaching out to see how we are and to ensure we are safe. We appreciate our friends and family from the UK are also worried about us and looking for updates so I thought this might be a good way to update everyone, and hopefully assure all we are okay!
It’s been a crazy couple of days, I can’t remember Houston without rain. This Hurricane has caused so much damage, it’s destroyed homes, neighborhoods, businesses and displaced families where they have been forced to evacuate from their homes.
We are situated in the West Side of town, and close to the Bayou which seems to now be overflowing. This afternoon we walked along to get some air, let the dogs unwind and to investigate our surrounding areas. Helicopters were overhead, coast guard and national guard rescuing people from local neighborhood’s 2.5 miles. They have been told to evacuate.
So far we haven’t received any notifications for evacuation. We are safe, dry and have supplies. Our house is doing it’s job and keeping the water out. Our friends had to evacuate Richmond so have been staying with us since Sunday.
We feel blessed at this time to be in this fortunate position, but sadly this storm is not over. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this disaster. We would love the chance to help out/volunteer but its too dangerous in surrounding neighborhoods to venture out – at the moment we feel helpless and useless. I have gutted our entire house, gone through cupboards, drawers, closets… my OCD is running wild!
We will keep everyone up to date throughout this, but I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the love. It means a lot to us.
